Fleet Supervisor

Monday - Friday - 5:00am starts
Casual to start with a view to permanency

Our client is Australia's leading recycling and packaging company. Due to growth within the business, they are in need of an experienced Fleet Supervisor join the team on a casual ongoing basis with a view to permanency for the right kind of candidate.

Role Purpose

The Fleet Supervisor oversees day to day fleet operations, ensuring all trucks, drivers, and loads are managed efficiently from early morning through handover. The role focuses on operational continuity, productivity, safety, and minimising downtime while maintaining strong communication with drivers, customers, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Early Morning Operations (5:00am Start)

Ensure all loads are covered and reallocate or reshuffle loads when trucks are unavailable or drivers are absent.
Manage first load dispatch and respond to early morning customer enquiries.
Identify operational risks early and take corrective action to keep the fleet moving.
Productivity & Job Management

Monitor job completion and ensure accurate updates throughout the day.
Track driver load times on customer sites and communicate delays to customers when required.
Maintain oversight of fleet movements and resolve issues that may impact productivity.
Driver Safety & Compliance

Monitor driver fatigue and safety alerts and investigate any concerns promptly.
Ensure drivers follow company safety procedures and legal requirements.
Address unsafe behaviour or patterns and escalate when necessary.
Fleet Downtime & Maintenance Coordination

Record all breakdowns, downtime, and reasons for delays.
Coordinate with workshops, mechanics, and service providers to organise repairs.
Support preventative maintenance planning to reduce unplanned downtime.
Ensure vehicles are safe, compliant, and ready for dispatch.
Customer & Stakeholder Communication

Communicate with customers regarding delays, site issues, or operational changes.
Escalate recurring site problems such as access issues, debris, or weighbridge delays.
Support demurrage tracking by identifying waiting locations and operational bottlenecks.
Reporting & Administration

Maintain accurate operational logs, downtime records, and daily activity reports.
Assist with incident and damage reporting and investigate issues with relevant managers.
Ensure all operational information is captured and handed over accurately.
Handover & Team Coordination

Provide a structured handover to the second supervisor between 11am–12pm.
Communicate outstanding issues, driver statuses, and fleet conditions clearly.
Work collaboratively with other supervisors and managers to maintain smooth operations.
Skills & Experience Required

Experience in transport, logistics, or fleet coordination.
Strong understanding of heavy vehicle operations and compliance requirements.
Ability to manage early morning operations and make quick, informed decisions.
Strong communication skills with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on reducing downtime and improving efficiency.
